For our founder, Dr. Nyeisha DeWitt, this work is deeply personal. Growing up in Oakland, she was a bright student in advanced classes but felt invisible in the very system designed to support her. When she started missing school, no one noticed. No teacher called, no administrator reached out. Eventually, she dropped out of high school.
But her story didn’t end there. Dr. DeWitt earned her GED, went on to become a first-generation college graduate, and later earned a doctorate in education. Her personal experience with absenteeism gave her a unique understanding of its consequences—not just academically, but emotionally and socially. She saw how disengagement can snowball, pushing students further from opportunity, and how different her life might have been if someone had intervened early.
That experience fueled her passion for educational equity and drove her to spend over two decades working in education, policy, and nonprofit leadership. She founded Oakland Natives Give Back, raising over $15 million to support youth programs and securing multiple school district contracts. Through that work, she gained direct access to attendance data, school district pain points, and the systemic challenges that keep students from reaching their full potential.
Dr. DeWitt’s journey—from a chronically absent student to a nationally recognized expert on chronic absenteeism—led to the creation of Wizearly. She knew schools needed a proactive, data-driven approach to attendance management—one that could flag at-risk students before they fell too far behind and provide real, individualized solutions to keep them engaged.
Wizearly is not just an attendance tracker; it’s an early warning system, a parent engagement tool, and an AI-powered intervention engine designed to make student success everyone’s priority.
Wizearly integrates school, family, and community data to identify students at risk of chronic absenteeism—before attendance issues escalate.
Parents play a crucial role in student success. Wizpulse, our gamified parent app, makes attendance improvement a shared responsibility by offering personalized insights, incentives, and real-time updates.
By reducing administrative burdens, Wizearly gives teachers, attendance officers, and school leaders the time and insights they need to focus on what matters: intervening early and supporting students effectively.
Schools don’t have to tackle absenteeism alone. Wizearly fosters collaboration between educators, caregivers, and community organizations, ensuring that students have the wraparound support they need to succeed.
We are reimagining how schools, families, and communities work together to prevent absenteeism rather than just react to it. Wizearly is more than a technology platform—it’s a movement to ensure that every student has a chance to show up, stay engaged, and succeed.
Let’s change the narrative on attendance. Let’s make every day count.
